According to L’Équipe, AS Monaco are in discussions with Olympique de Marseille midfielder Pape Gueye (25), whose contract with Les Phocéens expires at the end of the season.

With the contract of Senegal international Gueye expiring in the summer, Marseille were keen to garner a fee for the player in January, however, they failed to do so. The club had offered Gueye a four-year extension, which was nonetheless rejected by the player, who expected a more considerable financial deal to remain at the Vélodrome.

Despite being re-integrated into the set-up somewhat by interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset, Gueye is expected to leave in the coming months. He is already permitted to discuss a pre-contract agreement with another club. Monaco, who manifested their interest in the player at the start of the year, are still in discussions with Gueye, according to L’Équipe. Les Monégasques’ first offer was deemed too low but negotiations between the two parties are ongoing.

Other clubs in Germany and England are also interested, including Burnley who according to Foot Mercato, enquired about a deal in January.
