AS Monaco are interested in acquiring young Senegalese centre-back Formose Mendy, who is currently a first-team player at Ligue 2’s Amiens SC. According to a report from Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old has also attracted the attention of Premier League side West Ham United, though the London side would need him to satisfy the necessary working visa requirements before a move to England.
Scouts for the Monégasque club were present at Amiens’ game against top-of-the-league Le Havre AC yesterday, in which the league leaders rescued a point in the 88th minute with a heart-wrenching equaliser (1-1).
If a move across the English channel is off the cards, then a move to the Principality for the Senegal international (2 caps) may come to fruition instead. In France’s second division, he has been partly responsible for five clean sheets across 17 appearances in the league: a record that both Monaco and Mendy could only hope to recreate on the Mediterranean coast. Le Rocher have a poor defensive record in Ligue 1 this season – Monaco have lost 17 points after having taken the lead in Ligue 1, which is more than any other club in the French top flight.
