AS Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba is set to join Newcastle United, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Frenchman is heading into the United Kingdom today to complete the move to the St James’ Park club after Newcastle agreed a €41 million deal with the Ligue 1 club.

A 15 per cent sell-on clause has also been included in the deal, with the 20-year-old joining the Magpies for an initial €36m, with €5m in add-ons.

RMC Sports claims Bamba has been given permission to travel to undergo his medical and sign a long-term contract with Newcastle.

The youngster made 23 appearances across the Ligue 1 and Champions League last term and could be a solid addition to the Magpies’ midfield.

The Toons have lost Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur and his Brazilian counterpart Bruno Guimaraes could be on his way to Arsenal.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is desperate to strengthen in such a key position, and he will hope Bamba can hit the ground running in the Premier League.

The 5ft 11in France youth international is an excellent tackler, dribbler and passer, and his only season as a professional footballer appears to have convinced the Magpies of his quality.

Newcastle have signed Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £42m, Sean Steur from Ajax for £23m and Ewen Jaouen from Reims in a £18.5m deal.

Bamba is now expected to become their fourth summer addition and more signings are on the cards.
