AS Roma have completed the signing of Norwegian talent Ola Solbakken from Bodo Glimt, the Italian club confirmed on their official website.
After months of negotiations, the Giallorossi have struck an agreement for the free transfer of Solbakken on a five-year deal.
Solbakken’s current deal with Bodo Glimt expires at the end of this year, and he will move to Stadio Olimpico on January 2, 2023.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the Norwegian top-flight over the last few seasons, racking up 20 goals and 24 assists for Bodo Glimt in 91 appearances and winning the league title in 2020 and 2021.
Solbakken’s performances in the Europa Conference League last season caught everyone’s attention. He scored a sensational double in a memorable 6-1 win against Roma in the group stage, but the Italians had the better of the Norwegian outfit in the quarter-finals before eventually lifting the title.
The Norwegian youngster has four senior caps and can play on either flank as a winger.
Solbakken offered his thoughts after penning the new deal, stating that he was pushing for a long time to join Giallorossi.
“I have been pushing for this – I really wanted to be a Roma player, and finally I can say that I am,“ Solbakken said.
“Roma stood out to me from the start – I really believe in the prospects and the plans for the club, and I wanted to be a part of that.
“I am coming here to learn and improve but I also want to show what I am capable of. The Roma fans are the best I have come across and I cannot wait to be playing on their side.”
Roma are scouring the market for more signings in the winter transfer window, with Barcelona right-back Hector Bellerin one of the top targets.
