Asante Kotoko: coach Karim Zito resigns!
Asante Kotoko has just announced the resignation of their head coach, Abdul Karim Zito. This sudden split comes directly after the Ghanaian giants were knocked out in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FA Cup. The announcement broke just an hour ago.
Abdul Karim Zito is stepping down immediately from his position as Asante Kotoko head coach. Summoned for a meeting this Monday, February 9, the coach—who arrived in April 2025—took the opportunity to hand in his resignation to the Porcupine Warriors' management. "The management has accepted his resignation and thanked him for his service," the club statement reads.
Zito knew his position was under threat after his team was eliminated on Sunday in the Round of 16 of the FA Cup by Aduana FC (0-0, 2-4 on penalties).
In just 11 months, Abdul Karim Zito claimed two trophies with Asante Kotoko: the 2025 FA Cup and the 2026 Champion of Champions title. This parting of ways comes just five days before the historic Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m. GMT.
