Ashley Cole has taken his first senior managerial role after signing a short-term contract with Cesena FC.
The ex-Arsenal and Chelsea defender has signed a deal with the Serie B side until the end of the current campaign, with an option to extend should objectives be met.
“Cesena FC announces that it has appointed Ashley Cole as head coach of the first team. The new coach of the Bianconeri has signed a contract through June 30, 2026, with an option to renew upon the fulfillment of certain conditions.”
The Italian side also confirmed Cole’s coaching staff, which includes former Chelsea academy coach Jack Mesure as assistant manager.
“The coaching staff supporting Head Coach Ashley Cole will consist of: Jack Mesure (assistant coach), Giorgio D’Urbano (athletic trainer), Paolo Stringara (technical staff member), Nicola Capellini (technical staff member), and Federico Agliardi (goalkeeper coach).
“The entire Cesena FC family is thrilled to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team and extends a warm welcome to him and his staff in Cesena, wishing them all the best of luck in this new adventure.”
Since retiring in 2019, Cole has had several coaching roles as he bids to build a reputation in the game. The 45-year-old worked with Frank Lampard at Derby County, Chelsea and Everton, alongside spells with Lee Carsley for England at u-21 and senior level. Cole also had a spell working under Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City.
Cesena are currently eighth in Serie B, despite a seven-game winless run in all competitions.
