Aston Villa star Calum Chambers may seal his Villa Park exit in the summer as it is 'very difficult to see' how he has a future at the club, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Having spent £13.3million on Alex Moreno and splashed out a further £18million on Jhon Duran last month, Villans head coach Unai Emery will be handed another opportunity to freshen up his squad in the coming months.

According to the Mirror, Emery was willing to offload Chambers during the January transfer window after deeming him to be surplus to requirements.

The report suggests the central defender has failed to win the Villa boss, who also sanctioned a loan move to Fulham while they worked together at Arsenal, over.

Although Chambers has remained in the Midlands, respected journalist Jones recently told GiveMeSport that he expects the three-cap England international to be put up for sale ahead of the summer.

The 28-year-old is facing an uncertain future despite only heading to Villa Park for an undisclosed fee less than 13 months ago.

While Emery is keen to offload Chambers, Villa are in a strong negotiating position as he still has just shy of two-and-a-half years remaining on his £50,000-per-week contract.

What has Dean Jones said about Chambers?

Jones believes Chambers has fallen further down the pecking order since Emery moved into the dugout as previous boss Steven Gerrard's successor.

With that being the case, the transfer insider feels the Southampton academy product will need to move onto pastures new if he wants more game-time next season.

Jones told GiveMeSport: "Chambers is an honest pro and he's obviously got a lot of experience.

"But, when you're looking at games like the ones they've just had, it's very difficult to see - particularly in that position - how he would have a future with Villa."

Should Villa sell Chambers in the summer?

FBref statistics show Chambers has averaged more tackles, blocks and interceptions per 90 minutes than Villa teammate Tyrone Mings this season.

But it is clear that he is not highly-rated by Emery as he has been afforded just three starts since the Spanish headed into the Villa Park dugout in October.

In fact, Chambers has only been on the pitch for 467 minutes since the campaign got underway, emphasising that he is not at the top of the pecking order for one of the centre-back berths.

He will have even less opportunities to impress when Diego Carlos, who made the £26million switch from Sevilla last summer, returns from a long-term injury.

Villa would be wise to try and cash-in on Chambers, who was only handed a 5.7 match rating by Sofascore when he came into the starting XI for the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City last weekend, during the summer.
