According to a report from Marc Mechenoua, Aston Villa have entered the growing list of clubs clamouring for Olympique Lyonnais striker Georges Mikautadze’s (24) signature.

The Georgian international has been one of the hot commodities in the past few days, with Brentford, Villarreal, Burnley, and an unnamed Saudi Arabian side all interested in trying to secure the forward.

However, Mechenoua writes that Aston Villa appear to be making progress. The club have submitted an offer valued at around €25m to Lyon, and discussions between the two sides are ongoing. Villa have also secured Mikatuadze’s blessing, with personal terms reportedly agreed.

Lyon ideally would not want to part ways with the striker, especially since Alexandre Lacazette (34) left as a free agent for Saudi Arabian side Neom, but the club need to raise €40m in player sales before the transfer deadline day, due to their lingering financial problems. L’Équipe reported yesterday that Lyon are demanding €35m for the striker.
