The Villans lost Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and Morgan Rogers to Chelsea early in the summer transfer window, and despite having signed Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, are in the market for further additions in the engine room.

Aston Villa were keen on Portuguese midfielder Joao Palhinha, but he decided to make the switch from Bayern Munich to Benfica.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are seeking to make key additions in the middle of the park to provide more options to newly appointed manager Pierre Sage.

The Eagles started the season with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Everton and Sage will want to bring in new faces to Selhurst Park to bolster his side before the end of the summer transfer window.

Both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are tracking Marseille midfielder Timber, who could make a move this week, according to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof.

It is believed that the French outfit are prepared to let go of the 25-year-old midfielder, and apart from interest from the Premier League, Portuguese club FC Porto are also in the mix.

Timber arrived at Marseille from Eredivisie side Feyenoord in January and put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the club, but with the Ligue 1 club’s financial struggles could leave before the end of the summer transfer window.

Last campaign, the Dutch midfielder made 15 Ligue 1 appearances, playing as an attacking midfielder and central midfielder for Marseille.

Premier League interest in Timber is not new, as last summer, West Ham United were keen on his signature, but a move did not materialise.

Aston Villa look set for an imminent midfield addition in the shape of Leon Goretzka, who has been convinced about a move by Unai Emery.

Crystal Palace also hold an interest in Cagliari midfielder Michel Adopo, who could leave the Italian side before the transfer window shuts.

It is unclear how much Marseille will demand to part ways with Timber and where he is on the priority list for both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.
