Aston Villa ‘are in daily contact’ over signing Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, with ‘key days ahead’, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Villans started the new campaign in disastrous fashion with a 4-0 loss to Brighton and summer signing Joao Gomes also saw a red card in the 40th minute.

With the summer transfer window in the final week, manager Unai Emery wants to bring in quality reinforcements through the door, especially due to the uncertain future of Ollie Watkins.

Watkins has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, and Al Hilal have submitted an official offer to sign the English forward this summer.

Aston Villa have been working on the transfer of forward Jackson, who could leave Chelsea this transfer window, but it has even been suggested they could face competition for his signature.

Emery is keen to have Jackson at his disposal for the season and Aston Villa are working to make it happen.

Chelsea are clear that they do not want to loan Jackson out and are seeking a permanent sale for the player.

The 25-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge from La Liga club Villarreal in the summer of 2023 and his current contract runs until 2033.

Now is not the first time Jackson has garnered interest from Aston Villa, as last summer boss Emery wanted to bring him to Villa Park, but he joined Bayern Munich.

Last term, the Senegalese forward enjoyed a productive campaign with German giants Bayern Munich, making 23 Bundesliga appearances and contributing to ten goals.

Aston Villa have done business with Chelsea this summer transfer window and added attacker Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan to bolster their front line.

Now Villa will look to be able to get a deal over the line for Jackson, though it does remain to be seen whether it is tied to Watkins’ future being resolved.

Watkins is keen to move to Saudi Arabia and while signing Jackson would be a boost, if the striker does move to Al Hilal, Villa would not have one extra striker in Emery’s squad.
