Aston Villa complete £38m Joao Gomes signing from Wolves | OneFootball

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Joao Gomes from Wolves in a deal worth around £38m. The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Brazilian moves across the West Midlands after 130 appearances in three seasons at Molineux. He is Villa’s second summer addition, following a club-record £52m move for Switzerland international Johan Manzambi.

His exit had been widely expected after Wolves were relegated from the Premier League. Villa stepped in after a proposed switch to long-time suitors Atletico Madrid did not materialise.

Unai Emery had not initially planned to recruit a midfielder this summer, but acted after Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United for £35m and Amadou Onana suffered a serious knee injury.

Wolves technical director Matt Jackson praised Gomes, calling him exemplary and popular in the dressing room, and said he should thrive. He added that while Wolves were sorry to lose him, the club must make responsible decisions and build collectively within a sustainable model understood by supporters.

Villa are poised to sanction a major sale, with Morgan Rogers on course to join Chelsea for a British record £117m. The midfielder arrived in London on Monday to undergo a medical ahead of completing the move.
