Aston Villa complete club-record signing of Johan Manzambi | OneFootball

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg in a club-record deal worth around £59.5 million, beating Newcastle United to the highly-rated midfielder.

Newcastle had agreed a fee with Freiburg earlier this summer, but Villa made a late move and convinced the 20-year-old that his future lay at Villa Park.

Manzambi arrives after an impressive breakthrough campaign. The Switzerland international caught the eye at the World Cup, scoring three goals and providing two assists before injury cut his tournament short. He also enjoyed an excellent season with Freiburg, registering seven goals and six assists before facing Villa in the Europa League final.

The midfielder becomes Unai Emery's first signing of the summer as Villa look to reshape their squad following Youri Tielemans' move to Manchester United. His arrival also comes with Amadou Onana facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury at the World Cup.
