Aston Villa consider Palhinha to ease midfield crisis | OneFootball

Aston Villa are considering a move to sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich to ease their midfield crisis.

Unai Emery is set to be without Amadou Onana for the majority of the upcoming campaign after the Belgium international sustained an ACL injury while on duty at the World Cup.

Emery has also unexpectedly lost Youri Tielemans, after Manchester United activated the 29-year-old’s release clause. With Boubacar Kamara possessing a mixed fitness record, Villa are on the hunt for reinforcements.

A deal has been agreed for Freiburg starlet Johan Manzambi, while Joao Gomes is undergoing a medical with the club on Thursday. Those deals will cost around £88m combined.

Palhinha is next in the club’s sights, according to Portuguese outlet Maisefutbol. The 31-year-old is free to leave Bayern Munich for around €25m, having spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sporting CP and Benfica are also pursuing the former Fulham player, who has rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.
