Some significant changes are expected to take place in the FC Barcelona squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Catalans are reportedly looking to bring in several new players, while some of their current players are also being linked with moves away from the club.
One such player whose future at the Blaugrana club is not too clear is the fullback Alejandro Balde, who has seen his performances decline this season, and whose injury history is also raising doubts in the club. In fact, Joao Cancelo seems to be more of a starter on the left flank than he currently is.
In this context, Balde has been linked with interest from the Premier League, particularly Aston Villa. Recent reports in England suggested that Unai Emery’s side were prepared to consider an offer close to €60 million for the Barcelona defender.
However, those claims have been firmly denied. According to SPORT, Aston Villa have ruled out any move for Balde and insist they have not made any approach for the player. The Birmingham club also considers their left back position to be well covered within the current squad and does not see a major signing in that area as a priority.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have not completely closed the door on a potential departure for Balde. The club still values him highly and considers him an important part of their sporting structure, but his recent form fluctuations have slightly changed the internal perspective.
With his contract running until 2028, Barça remain in a strong negotiating position and would only consider offers that meet their financial expectations.
At the same time, the arrival of Joao Cancelo and his increasing involvement in key matches has added further competition in the position, something that could influence squad planning going forward.
For his part, Balde remains focused on his Barcelona future. The defender is determined to regain his best level and reestablish himself as a regular starter. Despite the rumours, his stance remains unchanged as he continues to push for success at the Catalan club.
