Aston Villa are exploring a deal to sign Romulo from RB Leipzig as the club consider potential replacements for Ollie Watkins.
Watkins has endured a tough season at Aston Villa and has scored just eight times in the Premier League.
Unai Emery’s side signed Tammy Abraham as competition and cover in January and are now making plans to bring in another forward, amid the possibility that Watkins could depart.
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Romulo Cardoso is on the radar of the club’s recruitment team after a solid debut season at Leipzig.
The 24-year-old has scored seven goals and laid on four assists in 19 starts in the Bundesliga, following his arrival from Turkish team Göztepe for around €25m last summer.
Leipzig are under no pressure to sell the Brazilian, due to a long-term contract, and would demand a fee in the region of £45m.
Any deal will hinge on Villa’s ability to raise funds through sales this summer. Villa posted a pre-tax loss of £82million (€94m) in their submissions to UEFA for the 2024-25 season.
It marks a third successive year that Villa have lost money and takes Villa’s losses across three years to nearly £290m.
