Aston Villa face another summer balancing act as Emery targets attacking reinforcements

Aston Villa are preparing for another carefully managed window, with Unai Emery prioritising attackers after the Europa League triumph. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Champions League qualification has not removed the need to operate within a Uefa settlement agreed last year after a financial fair play breach.

Emery’s focus is on adding pace out wide, with two wingers on the list. A striker is also being sought, which places some doubt over Tammy Abraham’s future, and a right-sided defender is wanted to compete with Matty Cash.

Any arrivals will need to be balanced by exits. Villa are prepared to move on Leon Bailey and Evann Guessand, while Emi Martinez’s future is uncertain amid claims of talks between Juventus and his agent, though the club have not received a formal approach.

Much could hinge on Morgan Rogers, the Halesowen-born midfielder who has several suitors. Villa are reluctant to sell and are expected to seek at least £100m for one of Emery’s key players, with no movement anticipated until after the World Cup and the player not pushing to leave.

Targets under consideration include Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes and Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.
