Aston Villa fans comments after Newcastle United outclass Villa at St James’ Park – Amusing

Aston Villa fans hadn’t seen their team win at St James’ Park since back in 2005, the infamous Dyer and Bowyer red cards match.

It will be now at least a 20 years gap before it happens again.

Indeed, the last time Aston Villa fans watched their team win at SJP when United finished the game with 11 players, was 1989.

No wonder they dread coming to Tyneside!

Eddie Howe once again schooling Unai Emery and Newcastle United hammering Aston Villa on the pitch.

Just a shame that the dominance in the game wasn’t matched by the scoreline, as it should have been at least a five or six goal winning margin.

Aston Villa fans commenting via their Villa Talk message board:

‘Newcastle singing “it’s happened again”

What is it and when did it happen before?’

‘Usually 4 nil so we’re improving.’

‘We played much better than this at this ground last season.’

‘The story of the game is the red card, and the players will be annoyed about it. It’s not like we were outclassed in a fair fight is it? ‘

‘How many times have we seen this…..self same game.

Blown away…..it’s embarrassing.’

‘Also shows Howe like Ange easily has Unai’s number. Gonna happen when Emery plays the same tactics against these sides every time.’

‘Playing with 10 men hasnt helped and 1-0 down after 2 mins made life difficult. I’m confident that even with 11 men we’d have lost this.’

‘Ah well. At least thats that for another year. Cursed ground not helped by joke ref as per.’

‘Newcastle have a huge advantage playing at home. I’m not sure why it is, maybe the crowd, maybe something else.

They smash their way around the pitch and are incredibly physical. The ref lets them get away with so much, match after match.

They are not the same proposition away from home.

It’s weird.’

‘Watkins showing the form is temporary class is permanent and he was in very good form for nearly 18 months. Now our best striker is a child who isn’t fussed about whether he plays for us or anyone else. ‘

‘We get punished so often for mistakes.

I do agree but in all fairness in this particular game we’ve actually not been punished for several errors. This could have been so much worse.’

‘They’ve cruised it, they’ve been good. We’ve been awful.’

‘We have been completely turned over today.’

‘Lazy pathetic play. That’s just embarrassing from Onana. Man up you clown.’

‘Pathetic, morale crushing defeat.’

‘Better than them till the sending off then there’s a complete head loss. Needed to come out strong and battle and see if we could nick a draw, instead it looks like we’ve been told to go out there and make it as easy for Newcastle as possible.’

‘They weren’t playing better than us until the red card.’

‘They absolutely were.’

‘In the years I’ve been watching football, there’s never been a team that I’ve disliked as much as this Newcastle side (before even taking into account their ownership). Makes it all the more infuriating that the words removed nearly always seem to destroy us.’

‘They’ve been miles the better side – we’ve done nothing.’

‘How poor was the commentary? Forget them being Newcastle cheerleaders but Michael Brown spouting nonsense and making no sense.’

‘Newcastle ain’t even been that good.’

‘Depends what your take on “that good” is. They’ve been miles the better side.’

‘Our plodding approach cannot work against teams like Newcastle, especially not with 10 men.’

‘The sad thing is…..some of their players, wouldn’t get in our team.’

‘Is there anyone apart from Emi and Bouba who gets in their team?’

‘Isak looks offside to me on his goal.’

‘It’s the rules, he’s behind the play so onside.’

‘We were mullered, despite the shoreline being much better.

Newcastle simply showed how to play us.’

‘I haven’t bothered to watch the second half. We all knew what the outcome would be.

Cheated out of 3 points by the most incompetent refs in the world!’

‘It’s hard enough to win up there without the bent officiating.’

‘One angry Unai Emery.’

‘That’s a manager feeling the pressure.’

‘I think Unai, being a smart man who doesn’t say anything without thinking first, will have decided to get publicly angry about this.

He’s probably thinking he actually has an opportunity here to really secure Duran’s emotional loyalty. Protect his player and make him feel like his coach looks out for him.

That would be my take. I don’t think Unai is feeling the pressure tbh, we’re in a decent position and fighting on two fronts. No real reason to say that. Newcastle away was always going to be a tricky fixture.’

‘Can’t be bothered to debate, argue or justify my opinion on the red card but the game itself was disappointing from our point of view. From the outset we were being outmuscled, outfought and our tempo was all wrong. They scored and for some reason, we gained some composure and a foothold for the next 30 minutes. Then the referee made a decision that whether we agree or not changed the contest completely.

It was then disappointing to witness some of the passing and defending, especially in the second half. Newcastle could and should have scored more.’

‘Conceding an early goal, gave us an even higher mountain to climb, but that card crazy referee, was determined to make it an impossible mission. Just when we were starting to make an impression on the game and not content with showing Cash, an unmerited harsh yellow that would see him walk a tightrope for the rest of the game and be suspended for our next match, he couldn’t wait to send Duran off, when he lost his balance and fell upon an opponent.

This incompetent referee was too easily swayed by the wild complaints of Newcastle players (I thought referees were going to put a stop to such protests) and Geordie fans who smelt blood at any costs.

He decided too easily that Duran had intended to do damage to his opponent and VAR once again showed how worthless it is, by not overturning his decision and instead supporting the decision made, without taking the time to fully check the available footage. MOTD determined Duran shouldn’t have been sent off, whether any appeal might be successful, is open to question, but it won’t give us anything from yesterday’s game. Howe and his fake Geordie sheiks won’t mind though.’

‘I’m surprised to see several people saying this. I couldn’t disagree more.

They absolutely dominated the first 10 minutes, and even at the 20-something minute mark, they had more than 70% possession. We mustered maybe one decent attack before Duran got sent off.’

‘I think in some cases, the time and money invested in our club, clouds the judgment…..sure there will be different opinions.

but we was comprehensively undone, once again…….and that challenge, by Tonali on Kamara, summed up the whole game, and set the tone.’

‘The circumstances of the playing staff, being what they are, and right now we can’t change what we are, and considering the history of repeat beatings up there…..it would suggest a different approach to spook them…instead we was wide open again.

why didn’t we start with 5-4-1 , nullify their enthusiasm, silence the partisan crowd, shut them down and grow in to the game, gradually morphing in to our own game, by winning the initiative.

Why!!!

Why do we just walk in to the same ambush, time and time again.

I don’t get it!!!’

‘We’ve been completely robbed today.’

‘Definitely not deliberate from Duran – he was busy trying to protect his own ankle. He nearly broke it! And the second time he caught Schar was a case of where else should his leg go?’

‘Aside from the usual pre-match general trepidation about Boxing Day and Newcastle away, the overriding thought for me going into this game was this Newcastle midfield is the exact opposite of Citeh.

Where Citeh’s midfield is physically small, slow and weak, Newcastle’s is filled with physicality and pace. I truly believed this would be a far bigger test of the Kamara/Onana/Tielemans 3, and so it proved.’

‘I don’t agree with it, I would have given a yellow but it was neither a clear and obvious error nor a ridiculous decision – it was a matter of degree, the referee saw it as more dangerous / deliberate than you or I did

It definitely will not be overturned or reduced on appeal

I believe Duran thought he could leave a little on Schar and it cost is any chance of anything from the match.’

‘VAR look at every red card incident and decided in this case that there was no clear and obvious error

I thought it was deliberate but only a yellow, the ref thought it was deliberate but a red card – that doesn’t pass the bar of a clear and obvious error just a matter of degree

We may not agree but those are the rules.’

‘It’s weird, Newcastle have quite a few players that if they played for us we’d be saying they aren’t good enough: Targett, Willock, Burn, a past it Trippier, even someone like Joelinton who just seems to run around barging people. Of course they’ve got some cracking individual players too, but they are so much greater than the sum of their parts, probably more so than any other team in the league.

We on the other hand aren’t.’
