Aston Villa are in the market for a new striker and reportedly have a new target on their transfer shortlist.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Villa have ‘called in the last 24 hours’ for Fenerbahce’s Youssef En-Nesyri.

Intriguingly, Villa are preparing to face Fenerbahce tomorrow and could use the opportunity to engage in talks.

Capped 92 times by his country, the 28-year-old has caught the eye of the Villains after scoring eight goals in 25 appearances this season.

The Birmingham-based club could use his physical profile up top following the departure of Donyell Malen. They need someone to compete with Ollie Watkins.

The Villans were punching above their weight in the Premier League, but recent results have dragged them back down to earth.

They are now searching the transfer market for inspiration. While En-Nesyri would be a decent pick-up, Villa may direct their attention elsewhere.

Tammy Abraham, currently plying his trade in the same league, has outperformed En-Nesyri this season and offers a far more convincing case.

The England international has rediscovered his scoring touch and looks sharper in his movement.

He has a proven Premier League pedigree, something En-Nesyri lacks.

Abraham also knows the club, having spent a season on loan in Birmingham. He would give manager Unai Emery another dynamic in attack.

En-Nesyri’s return of eight goals in 25 games is underwhelming for a striker expected to raise Villa’s attacking ceiling.

If Villa are serious about strengthening their forward line and pushing on in Europe and domestically, Abraham feels like the more ambitious signing.
