Aston Villa have had two bids for Taylor Harwood-Bellis rejected by Southampton, the latest worth 24 million euros, meaning the defender will not be moving to the Premier League.
Villa are now negotiating with Club Brugge for Joel Ordóñez to replace Ezri Konsa, who has joined Arsenal for 60 million euros. According to The Athletic, the proposal is an initial loan with a mandatory purchase clause of about 30 million euros.
Benfica had identified Harwood-Bellis as a centre-back option to succeed António Silva, but the arrival of Alessandro Circati cooled that interest.
The Championship club have been firm on their valuation, seeking around 29 million euros for the 24-year-old. Villa are not currently prepared to meet the Saints’ demands for the Manchester City academy graduate, who did not establish himself at City and had several loans.
Unai Emery’s side have tracked the 22-year-old Ecuador international closely and consider him a leading target to bolster their defence. The need to replace Konsa has accelerated their push for Ordóñez.
