Aston Villa have been hit by a fresh injury worry after captain John McGinn was omitted for Sunday’s Premier League visit of Tottenham.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Scotland international was not named in the 20-man matchday squad, with Unai Emery expected to update before kick-off.

McGinn missed nearly two months earlier this year with a knee problem and has been in excellent form since returning in March.

His absence is a major concern at the start of a pivotal week, with Nottingham Forest to come on Thursday in the Europa League semi-final second leg.

A victory over relegation-threatened Spurs could virtually secure a top-five finish, yet Emery has made seven changes from last week’s first leg at Forest.

Tammy Abraham has been handed only his second Premier League start since joining from Besiktas in January, while Victor Lindelof, Tyrone Mings and Ian Maatsen come into defence.

Lamare Bogarde replaces the injured Amadou Onana in midfield, with Jadon Sancho and Ross Barkley also recalled.

Villa team, 4-2-3-1: Martinez, Cash, Lindelof, Mings, Maatsen, Bogarde, Tielemans, Sancho, Barkley, Rogers, Abraham. Subs: Konsa, Buendia, Watkins, Digne, Torres, Garcia, Luiz, Bailey, Bizot (gk).
