Aston Villa’s midfield setback could affect Leeds United’s €30m move for Parma midfielder Mandela Keita.

Gazzetta reports that negotiations have begun for Keita, who is regarded highly in the Premier League.

Leeds have already added Wales international Harry Wilson on a free, and Daniel Farke still wants reinforcements in the middle of the park. Two bids for Southampton’s Shea Charles have been rejected.

Keita is valued at around €30m, similar to Charles. Parma are thought to be open to selling at the right price, which could make an agreement simpler.

Villa are also interested. Their defensive midfielder Amadou Onana has been ruled out of the World Cup and the first half of the new season with an ACL injury, and the Belgium international is not due back until perhaps the spring of 2027.

Villa may now step up their search for a midfielder, which could intensify competition for Keita and complicate Leeds’ plans.
