Aston Villa have secured the signature of John McGinn on a long term contract. The Scotland Internationalist has agreed an extension at Villa Park until the summer of 2028.

There has been some speculation that Celtic could make a move for McGinn as they look to add the experience and quality of the midfielder to their ranks. However, the extension puts any notion that McGinn could make a switch to Celtic Park next summer.

Celtic missed out on McGinn in the summer of 2018 as Villa nipped into to benefit from Celtic’s lack of urgency to secure the Scotland International. Villa benefited and took the player to the Championship, where he helped secure promotion to the Premier League and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Elsewhere, Celtic are considering a move for Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson. The 20-year-old is in the final year of his deal at Rugby Park and it has been reported that the Scottish Champions are eyeing a move for the tenacious midfielder. This would be a move that bolsters the Scottish quota, which is required for UEFA competition.

Celtic were said to be considering a move for Lennon Miller but didn’t make a move for the Fir Park talent. Udinese sealed a deal for the Scotland Internationalist worth £4.5m but he’s struggled to make an impact, being on the pitch for just 144 minutes.
