Aston Villa On Red Alert As Unai Emery Admired Star Now ‘On The Market’ | OneFootball

AC Milan have decided to sell Pervis Estupinan, which could put Aston Villa on red alert, amid the Rossoneri and the player’s agent working to arrange a San Siro exit.

Villa boss Unai Emery worked with the defender at Spanish side Villarreal and, a keen admirer, was keen to reunite with him at Villa Park this summer.

A deal for the left-back looked to be progressing well under AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim froze it in order to assess Estupinan in pre-season.

Aston Villa have been working on capturing Atletico Madrid’s Matteo Ruggeri in recent days, but now Estupinan is available.

According to Italian journalist Daniele Longo, AC Milan have now decided to put Estupinan ‘on the market’.

The Serie A side and the player’s agent are now working together in order to find a destination for the defender before the transfer window closes.

Given Emery’s admiration of Estupinan, the news could put Aston Villa on red alert, but it could equally have come too late for Villa to change course back towards the Ecuador international.

The 28-year-old though does have considerable Premier League experience, having featured heavily for Brighton before moving to AC Milan, which Ruggeri does not.

As such, Estupinan could be hugely attractive for Aston Villa if they can work out a fee with AC Milan for his signature.

It is unclear at the moment what other clubs might be tempted into joining the race for the left-back, who can also play further along the left flank, but he is not likely to be short of options.

AC Milan paid around £17m to sign Estupinan from Brighton in the transfer window last summer.

He struggled to make a big impact at the San Siro and now Amorim has decided he can do without the defender for the new campaign.

Estupinan signed a five-year contract when he joined AC Milan, meaning if the Rossoneri do want to offload him then they may have to be largely led by the player in what he wants to go, given his position of strength.
