Aston Villa are pushing to sign Emerson Royal as their first addition of the summer. According to ExpressAndStar.com, talks are ongoing with Flamengo, with Villa hoping to agree a fee under £10 million.
Royal is being targeted to provide cover and competition for first-choice right-back Matty Cash. Recruiting a right-back is a priority, with Andres Garcia expected to depart either permanently or on loan.
The 27-year-old joined Flamengo from AC Milan last summer after three years at Tottenham from 2021 to 2024, making more than 100 appearances. With Premier League and Champions League experience, a deal is viewed as good value as the club manage financial restrictions.
Emery also wants a striker and two attacking wide players. Harvey Barnes of Newcastle and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen are of interest, along with Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.
Villa’s spending power will depend on outgoings, and what happens with Morgan Rogers will largely define their summer. The England international is a top target for Arsenal, though the Premier League champions are yet to cement their interest with a formal approach.
Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof played down injury concerns after being forced off during Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Japan at the World Cup. Captaining his country, he was substituted in the 87th minute and later said he had suffered severe cramp in both calves. The result confirmed Sweden’s progress to the last 32.
