Aston Villa are hoping to sign the Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford at the end of the season.
Emiliano Martinez has been linked with an exit, and Football Insider claims Aston Villa want the 23-year-old Manchester City star to replace him. Trafford has struggled for regular opportunities at Manchester City, and he needs to leave in order to play regularly.
Aston Villa could provide him with the platform he needs. They believe he is a “top young goalkeeper” who could be an asset to the club in the long term. Trafford has been hailed as “fantastic” by Pep Guardiola.
The 23-year-old will be attracted to the idea of moving to the West Midlands club as well. Apart from regular opportunities, he would also get to compete at a high level. Aston Villa is pushing for Champions League qualification for the upcoming campaign. They have quality players and a quality manager at their disposal. The move to the West Midlands club could bring out the best in him and help him improve further.
He has played just three Premier League matches for Manchester City this season, and he will be desperate to get his career back on track.
Martinez has been exceptional for Aston Villa over the years, but he is 33, and the West Midlands club will need a quality long-term replacement. Investing in Trafford would be a wise decision. He was the best goalkeeper in the Championship last season, and he has shown his quality in the Premier League as well. With regular opportunities, he could develop into one of the best goalkeepers in the country.
Regular football at Aston Villa will help him cement his place in the England national team as well. It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa can agree on a deal with Manchester City.
