Aston Villa could be set for a major transfer boost amid reports claiming that Mbwana Samatta could be sold on a permanent basis.

Dean Smith’s side have enjoyed an impressive Premier League campaign thus far, remaining very much in the hunt for a European spot next season despite having to rely heavily on Ollie Watkins for goals.

One man who could have offered the Villa manager an alternative centre-forward option this term was Samatta, but he was allowed to join Fenerbahce on loan for the season.

Turkish publication Fotomac has now claimed that the Super Lig giants are keen to activate a clause in the deal to make the move permanent, in order to then use him as bait to sign Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis.

Considering that Villa signed Samatta in January 2020 for a fee of around £8.5m, and he has been on reported wages of £40,000 per week, the Tanzanian has cost the club a whopping £11m since he joined.

News that the 28-year-old is still set to join Fenerbahce on a permanent deal this summer despite not firing on all cylinders over in Turkey, where he has managed just five goals in 25 league games, will be music to the ears of Smith.

The Villa manager will know that it’s a chance for the club to finally end their nightmare with Samatta and cut their ties with a signing made by former sporting director Suso.

The money they get for him will surely be reinvested in the playing squad, and in this current market, that would be a very welcome relief.
