In a recent report, The Sun claimed that Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez is desperate for a move to Manchester United this summer. It is understood that the Argentine talent is keen on sealing a move to the Mancunian club this off-season.

Martinez’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season

Martinez had an impressive season at the West Midlands club after he put in a series of solid performances for them in the Premier League. The Argentina international participated in 53 matches for the Villans in the previous campaign, conceding 61 goals and keeping 16 clean sheets in multiple competitions.

The 32-year-old managed to catch the eye at times for Aston Villa and did well to complete 78.7% of his attempted passes in the Premier League (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Villa Park will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, Man United would have to launch a big offer if they want to recruit the Argentine custodian in this transfer window.

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Go For Martinez?

Martinez can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when being chased down by the opposition attacker and is a solid handler of the ball as well.

The Argentine keeper has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Man United.

Martinez would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Ruben Amorim’s first XI. He would serve as an upgrade over Andre Onana who struggled to be consistent with his performances for the Mancunian club last season.

At 32, Martinez has still got a few good years left in his locker to play at a high level. He might even help the Red Devils push for a European spot in the Premier League next season. With all things considered, Man United would be wise to go for a player of Martinez’s quality and experience this summer. However, he won’t be a long-term fix to their goalkeeping concerns, so Amorim might be better off signing a younger option in this transfer window.
