Aston Villa were enjoying a terrific run before the international break punctuated things. Manager Unai Emery would have been excited to keep the hot streak going.

However, international football takes up the next two weeks, and it is a chance to see some Villains strutting their stuff for their national teams.

Aston Villa stars are in action across the globe, hoping to make a positive impact on their teams. Unfortunately, that was not the case for one of our Villans, who endured a horrendous outing on his debut.

Villa starlet Lamare Bogarde received his first call-up to the Netherlands Under-21 side and came on from the bench to help his side but ended up contributing to the problems.

The Villa Academy graduate lost possession three times. He failed to complete his one attempted long ball and any of his four duels.

To make matters worse for Bogarde, he received two yellow cards and was sent off in the dying embers of the game. It was a disappointing evening instead of a momentous occasion.

Thankfully, despite being a man down, the Netherlands still managed to find a winner against Italy. They take on Romania on Tuesday. Since the Italy clash was a friendly game, Bogarde should be in the mix on Tuesday, and hopefully, he can bounce back.

Bogarde has been a serviceable player for Aston Villa this season, recording 18 appearances across all competitions.

He can be a back-up option for the Villains next season or head out on loan to gain experience, but as he showed yesterday, he still has a lot to learn. It also hasn’t helped that he has been consistently played out of position at right-back and centre-back when he is naturally a defensive midfielder.

That versatility has helped him gain vital experience at Villa, but he must be keen to show what he can do in the engine room.
