Aston Villa submit offer for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, but… | OneFootball

Aston Villa are reported to have made an offer to Crystal Palace in their bid to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta (29), according to The Athletic.

However, the proposal is unlikely to go through, as it is considered to fall well short of the Eagles’ expectations for their striker. Having been interested in securing the Frenchman’s services for several months, the Villans had already considered signing him last winter.

These developments are linked to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Ollie Watkins (30), who has informed the club’s management of his desire to leave Villa Park, as well as the injuries to Tammy Abraham (28) and Brian Madjo (17).

Mateta, embroiled in a dispute over the final year of his contract – which expires in June 2027 – with Crystal Palace, is keen to move on before the transfer window closes. The Eagles’ management, who see the coming days as their last chance to capitalise on their striker’s departure, are also inclined to let him go.
