Aston Villa could be without Alan Hutton for a lengthy period of time after the full-back hobbled off just three minutes into their draw away at Stoke on Saturday.
Hutton was still receiving treatment on the pitch when Villa conceded the game’s opening goal, and the Scot eventually had to be replaced by Albert Adomah.
The 34-year-old left the bet365 Stadium on crutches and Villans boss Dean Smith admitted he is deeply concerned about the injury.
“It’s a knee injury and it doesn’t look good at the moment,” Smith told reporters.
“We will have to get the consultants to look at it tomorrow because he felt something in there.
“We can’t say how bad it is yet.”
Hutton is out of contract at the end of the season and when asked if the veteran defender may have played his last game for the club, Smith would not be drawn.
“I’ve got no idea.
“We’re talking about contract talks now that we’re not even speaking about yet.
“Alan Hutton has just got injured playing so we have to respect that.
“It’s a big loss. But football is a contact sport and these things happen.”
But in brighter news, Hutton’s replacement Adomah netted a second half equaliser to earn his side a share of the spoils.
“It gave us the chance to get Albert on who scored his first goal for a year – and we moved Elmo [Ahmed Elmohamady] back there and he did well,” added Smith.
“We have to deal with it.”
