Aston Villa have a fresh injury scare with captain John McGinn absent for Sunday’s Premier League visit of Tottenham.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Scotland international was not named in the 20-man matchday squad, and Unai Emery was expected to give an update before kick-off.
Emery made seven changes from last week’s first leg at Forest. Striker Tammy Abraham was handed only his second Premier League start since joining from Besiktas in January. Victor Lindelof, Tyrone Mings and Ian Maatsen also came into defence.
Lamare Bogarde replaced the injured Amadou Onana in midfield, with Jadon Sancho and Ross Barkley returning.
Villa XI, four-two-three-one: Martinez, Cash, Lindelof, Mings, Maatsen, Bogarde, Tielemans, Sancho, Barkley, Rogers, Abraham. Subs: Konsa, Buendia, Watkins, Digne, Torres, Garcia, Luiz, Bailey, Bizot (gk).
McGinn missed nearly two months earlier this year with a knee injury and has excelled since returning in March. This new issue is a significant concern before Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, and a win over relegation-threatened Spurs can virtually guarantee a top-five finish.
