Aston Villa host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Villans are in excellent domestic form following a win last weekend, while Wolves slumped to another defeat, leaving them at the foot of the table.
After opening the 2025/26 campaign with a six-game winless run across all competitions, Villa have rediscovered their sharp identity under Unai Emery.
The Villains have bounced back with 10 wins in their last 12 and are now up to fourth in the league, although just three points separate them from 12th place.
Villa have recorded seven consecutive home wins. They have not lost at home since a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace back in August.
Only Arsenal and Manchester City have collected more home league wins this season.
Their latest triumph came on Thursday night in the Europa League, where Donyell Malen struck twice to secure a 2-1 victory over Young Boys.
Morgan Rogers continues to shine as the poster boy of Villa’s resurgence.
After his match-winning brace at Leeds United, the Englishman remains central to Emery’s attacking plans, while Emiliano Buendia’s revival provides more quality.
Wolves’ situation is dire. Now under the stewardship of Rob Edwards, the club is winless after 12 Premier League matches (D2, L10).
Things are grim as they sit nine points adrift of safety, enduring the third-worst start to a top-flight season in English football history.
Away from home, the record is just as bleak. They have managed one goal and one point across six league matches.
Their only positive was a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in September. The goal drought is a growing concern for the club.
Wolves have scored just eight league goals all campaign, and with defensive injuries piling up, Edwards will need something extraordinary to halt the Villains.
Wolves have not won at Villa Park since October 2021, when a stoppage-time Ruben Neves strike sealed a dramatic win.
They have since drawn one and lost two of their visits to Villa’s home.
However, Wolves will take some confidence from their win over the Villains in February.
They have won six and drawn three of their last 12 meetings with Villa.
Other players are recovering from Thursday’s win, and there are hopefully no problems for Sunday.
Emery might be tempted to start the in-form Donyell Malen, whose brace earned the Villans a win over Young Boys, but will likely go with Ollie Watkins.
Matty Cash will replace Lamare Bogarde in the starting line-up. The 28-year-old has been in fine form this season.
Emiliano Martinez; Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres, Lucas Digne; Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans; John McGinn, Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Buendia; Ollie Watkins.
