Aston Villa travel to face Manchester City in a crucial clash in the Premier League this evening.
Just a point separates the two teams in a terrifically tight race to secure Champions League qualification. There’s just three points between third and seventh in the table as five teams battle for three spots in Europe’s elite.
Villa head to the Etihad in red-hot form. Unai Emery’s team have won 10 of their last 11 games, including back-to-back wins over Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle over the past week. The latter fixture saw Villa run riot to claim a 4-1 win over their top-five rivals at the weekend.
City have steadied the ship since a nightmare mid-season run and are unbeaten in six games. Fifth in the table as things stand, a win will lift Pep Guardiola’s team to third – albeit having played a game more than Nottingham Forest and Newcastle. Defeat, however, would see the Citizens drop out of the Champions League places. It’s perfectly poised.
Unai Emery is enjoying the benefits of a fully fit squad to select from. Pau Torres sat out the weekend win over Newcastle but will be available for tonight’s contest. Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey have recently returned from issues to boost a squad stacked with depth after their January recruitment.
Morgan Rogers, who scored in the reverse fixture, will hope to make another impact against his former side.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen; Kamara, Tielemans, McGinn; Rogers, Rashford, Watkins.
Manchester City host Aston Villa in the Premier League on on Tuesday 22nd April 2025. Kick-off at the Etihad Stadium will be at 20:00 BST.
Manchester City vs Aston Villa will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Go UK and NOW UK.
