Aston Villa are hoping to close the gap on Arsenal at the Premier League's summit.

Unai Emery's side could move to within four points of the current champions-elect and his one-time employers with a win from Sunday's encounter with Everton.

But things have not exactly gone according to plan for the Villans.

Captain John McGinn pulled up barely a quarter of an hour in against the Toffees after he intercepted a pass from Villa's former homegrown hero Jack Grealish.

The Scotland international was holding his knee prior to being withdrawn moments later with Evann Guessand taking his place in hosts' midfield.

Given Villa already have Amadou Onana, Boubacar Kamara and Ross Barkley sidelined in their engine room, potentially also losing McGinn is the last thing that Emery needs.
