A third death has been reported, which has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.

Mexico beat Ecuador 2-0 in the round of 32 in the early hours of Wednesday, securing their place in the last 16.

One of the three co-hosts of 2026, Mexico will play for a quarter-final place against England or DR Congo on Monday at 2.00. They also reached this stage at the two previous World Cups they hosted, in 1970 and 1986.
