La Lazio Siamo Noi reports that Atalanta have opened talks with Lazio over Alessio Romagnoli, who could still depart before the end of the summer window. The Bergamo side are pushing to get a deal over the line in time.

The report adds that Sead Kolasinac is expected to be sold in the coming days to create room for the defender, with negotiations ongoing. Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina also says the clubs are engaged in direct discussions.

Romagnoli, 32, has long been at odds with president Claudio Lotito, with relations souring over a promised pay rise tied to 2023 Champions League qualification that did not materialise.

He has twice bid farewell to supporters, first in January after the Lecce match, then in early July via a video shown during a large anti-Lotito protest. However, a switch to Al-Sadd collapsed on both occasions, the most recent due to unrest in the Middle East that prevented payment by the Qatari champions.

Atalanta are keen to reunite him with Maurizio Sarri and have been busy late in the window, completing the signings of Samuele Ricci and Franck Kessie in recent hours. Lazio have already brought in two centre-backs, Danilho Doekhi and Josip Sutalo, and any Romagnoli exit could prompt a third signing as Gennaro Gattuso weighs fitness concerns over Patric and Samuel Gigot.
