A statement from the club confirms that he was diagnosed with a Grade II lesion to the collateral medial ligament in the left knee.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this type of injury means that he is expected to be out of action for circa two months.

Atalanta signed Sulemana from Southampton in the summer of 2025 for €17.5m plus add-ons.

He has struggled to make an impact, contributing three goals and two assists in 37 competitive appearances for La Dea, with only 12 of those in the starting XI.

The 24-year-old had been hoping for a stronger role at the club this season with the arrival of coach Maurizio Sarri and shift to a trident attacking formation.
