Former Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri has asked Atalanta to reunite him with Mario Gila, who has been negotiating a transfer to Napoli.
With only one year left on his contract and no hope of a renewal, the 25-year-old defender is seemingly on his way out of Formelllo. The Spaniard reportedly has an agreement with Napoli on a five-year contract and a €3 million net salary per season, but the two clubs have yet to strike a deal.
The Biancocelesti will have to share the profit with Gila’s former club, Real Madrid, who have a 50% sell-on fee, so Claudio Lotito has set his asking price at €25-30 million. On the other hand, the Partenopei started with a €15 million offer, and they’re trying to bridge the gap by adding Lorenzo Lucca to the package, or even Rafa Marin.
While Napoli are struggling to find a breakthrough in their negotiations with Lazio, other suitors could seize the opportunity. According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Atalanta have entered the race for Gila, who is highly-admired by their new head coach, Sarri. The transfer market expert reveals that the Orobici have already launched a thorough enquiry followed by a €20 million bid.
While Atalanta’s offer remains lower than the price tag set by Lotito, it is higher than Napoli’s. It remains to be seen if La Dea will manage to overtake the Partenopei, or if Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club will respond by raising their offer in the coming hours.
