Atalanta stand firm on Palestra as Inter could miss out if Manchester City ‘submit offer’

Inter’s move for Palestra is in serious doubt as Atalanta hold firm and interest from Newcastle United and Manchester City threatens to price the Nerazzurri out.

Inter’s hopes hinge on the player’s preference. He is understood to favour Inter over Newcastle, but, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, that would shift towards the Premier League giants if they submit a formal offer.

Palestra has been identified as the primary replacement for Denzel Dumfries following his imminent move to Real Madrid, and he impressed on loan at Cagliari last season.

The pursuit has proved more complex than first expected, with parallels already drawn to last summer’s failed chase for Ademola Lookman.

A makeweight has been dismissed. Inter hoped to include 2007-born defender Matteo Cocchi, yet Atalanta are not sufficiently convinced to accept him as part of the package.

That leaves Inter needing a cash offer in excess of €50 million, a heavy spend while they also weigh the loss of Champions League prize money. Atalanta have consistently extracted maximum value for their most coveted assets and show no sign of softening on Palestra.
