Crystal Palace’s attempt to take Honest Ahanor on loan has prompted scrutiny, given they already have Axel Disasi from Chelsea. Premier League rules prevent two clubs sharing more than one loan in a season.
Calcio e Finanza report that Atalanta’s financial strength, and a gentlemen’s agreement with Chelsea, make a workaround possible. The Serie A club would loan Ahanor directly to Palace for this season, with all parties aware he would end up at Chelsea next summer for around €48m.
This is feasible because Atalanta are in no rush to cash in on his sale. They have already sold Marco Palestra to Chelsea for around €50m plus add-ons.
The Bergamo side are among the few in Europe’s top five leagues to post regular profits. That is largely driven by player trading and a productive youth academy.
On that basis, Ahanor is likely to go straight to Palace and not officially become a Chelsea player until 2027.
