Everything is set for Inter’s final match of 2025. Cristian Chivu’s side travel to Bergamo, where they will face Atalanta on Sunday evening at 20:45 CET. The Nerazzurri go into the fixture top of the table with 33 points, following 11 wins. They have scored 34 goals and conceded 14 so far.
The meeting in Bergamo will be the 129th Serie A clash between Inter and Atalanta. The overall record favours Inter, who lead with 70 wins to La Dea’s 24, with 34 draws. Unsurprisingly, Inter are the opponent against whom Atalanta have suffered the most defeats and conceded the most goals in their top-flight history: 232.
Recent form further underlines this positive trend. Inter have won each of their last six Serie A matches against Atalanta and are unbeaten in the last 13, recording eight wins and five draws. The last time the Nerazzurri managed a longer winning streak against the Bergamo side in the league dates back to 1967, when they put together eight consecutive victories.
It’s not just about results, but goals too: Inter have scored at least twice in each of their last six Serie A meetings with Atalanta. The match on Sunday 28 December will be played with a gap of more than ten points between the two sides in the first half of the season, something that had not happened since 2019/20, when the fixture ended 1-1.
Inter head to Bergamo boasting the league’s most prolific attack: 34 goals scored, despite having played one game fewer. The Nerazzurri are also the most dangerous side in both the opening half hour, with 11 goals, and in the final 30 minutes, with 15, underlining a strong approach and effective management of key moments in their matches.
A total of 13 different goalscorers have already found the net for Inter in this Serie A campaign, further evidence of the collective nature of the project. Inter also top the attacking threat charts, with 262 shots attempted and 108 corners won, both the highest figures in the league so far.
LAUTARO AND ATALANTA
Inter captain Lautaro Martínez continues to be one of the standout performers of 2025. In Serie A over the calendar year, only Riccardo Orsolini has scored more goals than him: 15 compared to the Argentine striker’s 14. Against Atalanta, Lautaro has been involved in nine goals in 12 league appearances, with seven goals and two assists — a return bettered only by his record against Salernitana and Cagliari in his career.
The Nerazzurri captain has scored in each of his last three Serie A appearances and had not put together a longer scoring run within the same calendar year since November–December 2021, when he found the net in five consecutive matches. Moreover, he is just two goals away from breaking into the top 50 all-time Serie A goalscorers.
Atalanta are the opponent Nicolò Barella has scored against most often in Serie A, with three goals to his name. On a personal level, the midfielder is closing in on a major milestone: 200 wins with Inter in all competitions — the Nerazzurri’s number 23 currently stands on 199. Since his arrival at the Club, only Lautaro Martínez has managed to surpass the 200-win mark with a single team in Serie A.
Federico Dimarco continues to set the standard at European level. No defender across the five major leagues has provided more assists than him this season: five, level with Lens’ Udol, a number that underlines the Nerazzurri wing-back’s significant attacking influence.
Atalanta head into the clash against Inter sitting ninth in the table, with 22 points from 16 matches, the result of five wins and seven draws. The Bergamo side have scored 20 goals and conceded 18 so far this season.
La Dea have experienced an up-and-down start to the campaign, which led to a change in the dugout: after beginning the season under Juric, Atalanta handed the team over to Raffaele Palladino. Under the Campania-born coach, nine points have been collected in the last five Serie A matches, thanks to victories over Fiorentina, Cagliari and Genoa. The two defeats both came away from home, against Napoli and Hellas Verona.
Palladino’s impact has also been immediate in the Champions League, where Atalanta have enjoyed a perfect start under his guidance: two matches played and two wins, a 3-0 away success against Eintracht Frankfurt followed by a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea. Atalanta currently sit fifth in the Champions League standings with 13 points, the result of four wins and one draw.
For the match against Inter, Palladino is expected to line his side up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Carnesecchi in goal; De Roon, Hien and Kolasinac in defence; Zappacosta, Musah, Ederson and Bernasconi across midfield; De Ketelaere and Maldini operating behind the lone striker Scamacca.
