A light-hearted slice of Basque rivalry marked Josep Pedrerol’s first day at Mediaset, as Athletic and Real Sociedad loyalties briefly took centre stage during El Chiringuito’s rollout.

According to El Correo, the Catalan arrived early for pre-launch interviews across Telecinco and Cuatro, shadowed throughout by a camera and reporter Nico González, a Bilbao native who also spoke with other presenters.

In one exchange, González spoke with Gipuzkoan host Ion Aramendi of 'El verano se mueve', who welcomed the move and highlighted the ilusión surrounding the arrival.

González echoed the term, prompting Aramendi to show his fan side by saying he was keen to see his Real Sociedad in Champions again. González smiled, noted he is from Bilbao and supports Athletic, and Aramendi playfully gestured towards the exit, which was taken in good humour.

The greetings continued across 'Vamos a ver', 'En boca de todos', 'Todo es mentira' and 'De lunes a viernes'. Pedrerol toured the studios before meeting his team at about seven pm to finalise the debut script, then the show went on air from its new home at midnight.
