Athletic Club boss Terzić launches defence of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal | OneFootball

Athletic Club head coach Edin Terzić made use of the opportunity to throw his full backing behind Barcelona star Lamine Yamal in the aftermath of his side’s meeting with the Blaugrana on Thursday.

This comes amid mounting criticism regarding the body language of the young attacker.

Barcelona are of course fresh off making it two wins from two to open the defence of their La Liga title yesterday evening. After welcoming Athletic to the Spotify Camp Nou, Hansi Flick’s troops emerged comfortable 2-0 victors.

The aforementioned Lamine featured from the off in the matchup, and caused a whole host of problems for the visitors down Barca’s right flank.

For the 2nd game in succession, however, the 19-year-old failed to notch either a goal or an assist. After looking hugely frustrated following his withdrawal against Elche on opening day, Lamine in turn let his disappointment show at times on Thursday, too.

These actions have drawn criticism from sections of the media and fans alike, who insist that the winger should simply be happy that his side are winning and in some style.

Speaking to the media following the full-time whistle in Catalunya’s capital, the aforementioned Edin Terzić was therefore asked for his thoughts on Lamine’s situation.

And Athletic’s headmaster was quick to defend the Spanish international, explaining:

“Does Lamine deserve all the criticism he’s been receiving lately? Don’t forget that we’re first and foremost talking about a human being, and in this case, we’re also talking about a very young player. We need to be a little more cautious about our criticisms.”
