As Athletic Club begin to think about what their squad may look like next season, one main question mark remains; the future of Ander Herrera.
The Bilbao native is nearing 35 years of age and is starting to consider whether his future lies with Los Leones.
According to Marca, Athletic and manager Ernesto Valverde are keen to keep Herrera at the club next season, but will be looking to have the former Manchester United and PSG star on lower wages, given his age.
Herrera has played 27 matches in all competitions this season, showing he isn’t ready to hang up the boots yet, and Bilbao are impressed with how he navigated the season unaffected by the injuries which had plagued him during the first season after his return to the club.
Marca have reported that Ander Herrera is deciding between continuing at Athletic Club or returning to boyhood club Real Zaragoza to put an end to his career.
With his experience in the game, Herrera could be missed in midfield for Bilbao if he is to go elsewhere.
