Athletic Club’s Yuri Berchiche responds to news of fresh injury blow | OneFootball

Athletic Club star Yuri Berchiche has taken to social media on Monday, to send a message to the club’s fanbase.

This comes after the veteran defender’s latest injury blow was made official by the Basque giants.

Berchiche, for his part, marked his return from a spell on the sidelines this past weekend, featuring from the off in Athletic’s La Liga meeting with Las Palmas.

En route to an eventual 2-0 victory, however, the 34-year-old was dealt a fresh fitness blow.

Inside the closing 20 minutes at the Estadio Gran Canaria, Berchiche was forced to limp out of proceedings, with what looked like a relapse of his previous right hamstring problem.

And, on Monday, precisely as much was confirmed, courtesy of an official statement on Athletic’s website:

‘Yuri Berchiche suffered a muscle injury to the hamstring muscles of his right leg during the match against UD Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria stadium.

‘The player’s return is pending evolution.’

Ahead of next month’s Copa del Rey final showdown with RCD Mallorca, all associated with Athletic Club will now be crossing their fingers, in the hopes of Berchiche recovering as quickly as possible.

In turn, this afternoon, the stopper has forwarded a message of defiance to the Lions faithful.

In a post on his official ‘X’ account, Berchiche assured:

‘I will come back stronger’
