With Edin Terzic now in the dugout after Ernesto Valverde announced the end of his cycle, Athletic Club are weighing selective summer moves within their self-imposed recruitment limits. They finished well short of their ambitions last term.
One option is Unax del Cura of Mirandés, a former Villarreal academy forward previously on Athletic’s radar. According to Bilbao Hiria, he produced five goals and two assists in only 13 games. Terzic could view him as depth.
Injuries undermined much of the campaign, particularly in defence. Regular absences for their star Nico Williams, plus the underperformance of Sannadi, also told.
Another long-running focus lies at Girona, namely Iván Martín, a Bilbao-born midfielder who came through Villarreal before a permanent move to Girona in a deal that included Terrats. The recruitment department have worked on this option for years.
Martín is 27 and under contract to 2028, and Girona’s relegation could lower a fee to around eight to 10 million euros. Valued at five million euros, he has remained a regular in what has been his poorest season since reaching the top flight with the Catalans. With alternatives such as Moncayola, Turrientes or Aimar Oroz costing more, everything points to Athletic trying to capitalise on Girona’s drop to push for him.
