Athletic have ended complimentary ticket privileges for the first team this season, at San Mamés and away.

According to as.com, president Jon Uriarte met captains Yuri Berchiche and Iñaki Williams on Friday, but the stance from Ibaigane did not change. The policy also covers Lezama staff and former players in the veterans association.

Up to last Saturday’s match against Alavés, each player had six tickets. That allowance has now been withdrawn.

Ibaigane considers the squad not entitled to this courtesy, part of broader cost cutting. Players will have priority to buy, as the club seeks to seat new members from the 11,000 people on the waiting list and to monetise tickets as much as possible.

After a tense meeting, players say they do not understand being the only club across the five major leagues that does not grant invitation quotas for family or friends.

For now the matter is parked until further notice, with La Liga due to resume on 10 October away to Rayo in Vallecas.
