Edin Terzic named his first official Athletic squad to face Sevilla on Friday, with Beñat Prados absent and Johaneko Louis-Jean included. According to El Correo, Prados’ omission came without a medical update, while Johaneko, despite a Bilbao Athletic squad number, will be at San Mamés today among the 23.
Nico Serrano was also left out and, barring a late change, could depart, with a sale anticipated before the window shuts on one September. Andoni Gorosabel remains sidelined, having arrived for pre-season injured and not featured in any friendly. Unai Vencedor is not in Terzic’s plans and the club are seeking a solution.
As previously indicated by Terzic, Dani Vivián will miss the start of La Liga with physical problems. The last medical update on 16 July cited an insertion injury to the adductor longus in his right leg. There has been no further information and he has yet to rejoin the group.
Álvaro Djaló made the squad and must convince his coach that his place is at Athletic. He began pre-season brightly then faded, with his prominence reduced, yet he is now among the 23 selected to face Sevilla.
Hugo Rincón and Beñat Gerenabarrena are also included and, along with Johaneko, could make their Athletic debuts. The right-back is strongly in contention, as is the midfielder who impressed at Castellón.
Today brings a reunion with the fans and could be a night of firsts, with three players, alongside Terzic, targeting debuts.
