Ronaldo Cisneros is staying put at Atlanta.
The club announced it has extended the loan for the forward from Chivas Guadalajara through the end of the 2022 Major League Soccer campaign. Atlanta United also holds a purchase option upon the completion of his stint.
He will continue to occupy an international slot on the roster.
The Eastern Conference side initially acquired Cisneros on loan from the Liga MX side on March 21, in a deal that ran through July 7 with an option to extend and purchase.
Since his arrival, Cisneros has managed four goals in 10 regular-season appearances and earned MLS Player of The Week for his Week 10 performance against Chicago Fire when scoring the fastest hat trick from the start of kickoff in club history in 36 minutes.
He’s become a huge asset for head coach Gonzalo Pineda as his side combats an injury crisis. The team is currently without Brad Guzan, Miles Robinson, Osvaldo Alonso, Andrew Gutman, Ronald Hernandez, Santiago Sosa and Brooks Lennon. Star Josef Martinez spent also spent several weeks on the sidelines earlier this season after undergoing surgery, but has since returned to the starting line up.
But Pineda has managed to keep Atlanta United afloat, boasting 10th place on the Eastern Conference table with 19 points in 15 games and a record of 5W-6L-4D. The team is only four points away from a playoff spot.
