América, a team from Northern Brazil, has confirmed the transfer of forward Caio Assis to Atlanta United. The move, announced Thursday, sends one of the club's top academy talents to Major League Soccer for the rest of the 2026 season.
Assis built his reputation with Rio Grande do Norte's América in its youth ranks, standing out as one of the most promising players to come through the system this year. Despite the buzz around his development, he never made his first-team debut before the transfer went through.
América will retain 25% of Assis' economic rights under the agreement. That means the Brazilian club stands to benefit financially if Atlanta United sells him later.
The clause lets América hold onto some upside from a player it developed but never fielded professionally, turning an academy departure into a longer-term financial play.
Atlanta United gives Assis his first taste of international football. MLS continues to draw young talent from South America, offering prospects like Assis a chance to develop in a different tactical environment and a growing league.
For Assis, the move is a chance to translate academy potential into professional minutes. For América, it closes the book on months of speculation while keeping a financial line open to one of its brightest young exports.
